This is what a modern version of Windows 3.1 could look like

The flat look of Windows 8 and 8.1 might disappoint some users who hoped to get the same shiny design available in Windows 7, but there’s still hope that things could change in the future.

DeviantArt user crusader1081 has looked in the past to create a modern interpretation of the classic Windows 3.1, the operating system that was officially launched on April 6, 1992.

As you can see in the picture above, the designer mixed the old OS version with Windows 7’s user interface, which led to a very appealing mix based on simplicity and a clean approach.

The same design could very well work for Windows 9, especially because Microsoft clearly needs to improve the visual side of its operating system and make it more appealing to the eye.

In case you’re wondering, Windows 9 is expected to make its public debut in late 2014 or early 2015.
