Like Clevo, Compal is one of the world’s most important OEM’s handling production of notebook computers, monitors and TVs for a variety of brand vendors across the world including, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP or Fujitsu.

In order to sustain the partnership with the above-mentioned brands, Compal is constantly innovating and experimenting with different form factors, in an attempt to push developments in the field forward.

Now the company has received the prestigious IF Design Award, which is considered to be the highest honor in the world of device design, reports Notebook Italia.

This award includes 11 designs, covering the tablet/laptop hybrid and convertible notebook category and we’re going to talk about some of them in what follows.

The first group of devices consists of a range of tablets whose flexibility and productivity can be increased by virtue of using accessories. Introducing Kimberly, Concorde, Concorde Blade and Concorde Slide.

The simplest of the bunch is the Kimberly, which is an 11.6-inch “blade edge” tablet. The slate is said to provide convenient standard connectors to solve the visual issues brought about by them by virtue of the “blade edge” thinness.

The slate integrates acoustic around the concave form in order to enhance sound quality.

Moving on to the Concorde, this is supposedly the first 10.1-inch tablet with keyboard that can be “open and used in one second.” The slate provides comfortable angle viewing and the display and keyboard won’t separate when the users picks it up in one hand.

The Concorde Slide is an 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet that arrives with easy angle adjustment accessory. The device has a pouch where a full-pitch keyboard and touch pad live.

The machine is made of tactile carbon fiber composite material that should appeal to mobile professionals looking for a versatile companion to spend their days with.

Last but not least, here comes the Concorde Blade which also offers an 11.6-inch screen and runs Windows 8 out of the box. According to the research, tablet usage takes place only indoors where charging your tablet isn't difficult.

So, to cut back on the tablet’s overall weigh, Compal has moved 60% of the battery weight into the keyboard pouch, making the slate extremely portable.

The slate benefits from a so-called “one-hand, one-step” opening, which delivers a comfortable typing and reading angle, perfect for traveling.

Note that these are just concept designs and there’s no way of telling whether brand vendors will ever pick up these ideas and transform them into a real-life product.
