For the last five years there have always been unconfirmed rumors about a not at all needed but very much anticipated new Conan movie. Conan was played in both '80s cult movies by former actor, actual Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who obviously is, let's say, at least reluctant to appearing almost nude again on the screen. John Mills, who directed the previous adventures of the mythological barbarian is said to direct "King Conan : Crown of Iron." No further news is available, but Arnie's replacement is a hot chat subject. Most people see The Rock or Vin Diesel as the muscled warrior king of a distant time and space. The launch of this third installment is regarded by many merchandise company with great interest, as Conan is due to get money out of the young audiences. All in all the comeback of Schwarzenegger as the barbarian wouldn't be a total shock or surprise, as Hollywood will soon release the 6th Rambo movie with veteran Sylvester Stallone as lead actor and the 4th Indiana Jones starring old but very appealing to mass audiences Harrison Ford.

| Comment #1 by: Greg on 15 Jan 2008, 13:51 UTC | reply to this comment | I wonder if Schwarzenegger could really take the appearance of Conan once again without looking like an idiot: he's obviously much older and has less body mass; furthermore, he's been operated a few years back for a heart condition and now sports a nice 5 inches scar on the torso...
As for the 'old crew' making their comebacks, well I guess Harrisson Ford is acting in Indiana Jones, but Silvester Stallone is probably going to try his hand at Rambo IV and V before even considering a VI, don't you think? |
| Comment #2 by: ROB on 06 Feb 2008, 06:14 UTC | reply to this comment | I DO NOT THINK THAT DIESEL OR THE ROCK SHOULD EVEN TOUCH THIS ROLE CONSIDERING CONAN IS ABOUT 6'8-6'10 WITH JET BLACK HAIR BLUE EYES AND HAPPENS TO BE A VERY PALE NORTHMAN |
| Comment #2.1 by: Frederic on 27 Feb 2008, 15:36 GMT | Rob?? I hope this isn't THE Rob from the Arts department on Conan the Barbarian and I have a feeling it isn't!
6'8?-6'10? A pale Northman???WTF is that? Obviously someone needs to re-read the Howard's novel because Robert E. specifically says "...at 15, the Cimmerian TOWERED over his peers.." So, I'm guessing he'd be a 7 foot giant as even Howard aludes to and USES that very word and " a pale northman"? Conan is TANNED, very tanned thanks to over exposure to snow-reflected sunlight and background! Howard SAYS so and let's not forget the scars, please!
Book are better read than sitting on a shelf, people! |
| Comment #2.2 by: Chris.McLellan on 05 Sep 2008, 19:28 GMT | Hi there,
I agree with the aforementioned comment, The Rock and/or Vin Diesal would be a very poor choice indeed. Not that I think they are poor as action heroes but this role is just not for them, Conan as you mentionaed has jet black hair and blue eyes, Robert E Howards depiction of the Cimmerian race should be adhered to. It would be like making Shaft a white Ginger guy...As for Arnie playing the part :-
Conan the Barbarian (the making of the warrior, how man is forging the human spirit is much like making a sword, after being beaten again and again you become harder)
Conan The Destroyer - (What you do with such power?)
King Conan - (The Aged Conan, King of Aquilonia and the consequences of how you used your power)
Therefore I do not Rule Arnie out in any way shape or form :) |
| Comment #3 by: britt on 18 Jul 2008, 05:56 UTC | reply to this comment | I loved the Conan films, but i like my movies tru to the essence, if arnold is not going to make his comeback like harrison ford and sylvester stalone, dont do it. vin diesel, love the guy but this is not a role for him. The rock was a great scorpion king for mummy, the role was made for him, conan was not made for either actor. that role was made with aarlond in mind and tailored to his physical and emotion. yes arnold may have a scar from his opperation, but if they can hide alyssa milanos tattoos in charmed surely some prostetics can cover up a scar.
the last conan movie, princess and the ice castle and the really big diamond, she made him her king. so notice at the end of both movies the guy says that conan ruled many years and was a great king, question is did he realy marry the princess, is he the king of her relm, what happened to her that at the end of both movies she not mentioned, he always says thats another story, is conan 3 gonna tell all? or is it gonna be another story? |
| Comment #3.1 by: Stephanie on 01 Sep 2008, 03:57 GMT | Brit, I agree with you on having the part made for Arnold. I really hope he comes back because since seeing the first and second one I always thought it needed a third and final one. As for his scar, why hide it? He was a barbarian and then a destroyer why not have battle scars?
As for the last part you put, dear, you have it all wrong. In Conan the Barbarian, he "married" Valeria, a woman warrior who was also a thief. But she was killed by Thulsa Doom towards the end. In Conan the Destroyer Queen Taramis promised Conan that she would bring back Valeria. The princess, Jehnna, said at the end, "Rule Shatazaar with me." Conan told her, "I will have my own queen, my own kingdom." The Conan left after Jehnna gave him a kiss, that is why "the wizard" says there will be another story.
Like I said before, there needs to be a third one where he is king and an incredible story along with that crucial point. I have been thinking about this plot for years. Hopefully Arnold will do it. If Harrison and Sylvester can do it then he can too. |
| Comment #4 by: conan fan on 08 Aug 2008, 01:37 UTC | reply to this comment | May Mako rest in peace. A key narrator and character will be missed.
I think we should relish in the timeless classic of Barbarian and not disturb its accomplishments. |
| Comment #5 by: wilmolnar on 27 Dec 2008, 10:26 UTC | reply to this comment | Arnold owes it to the fans to complete this saga. There really is no other actor out there that captures the appeal and character he established. While not really true to Howard's concept, he remains a solid choice and as close as could be depicted in my opinion. It would mean alot to see the character come full circle with himself, his world and his place in it. I would welcome it if it were taken seriously and told a complete tale. More sequels would not be needed and we'd get a full scope of the character and some closure for the generation that "knows" Conan either via film or in the stories. Lets not overlook that many elements have been twisted from Howard to fit the movie mythology, but The Sword and the Phoenix could be a fine way to start this conclusion or play a part in its tale. |
| Comment #6 by: Murrayman on 17 Apr 2009, 01:42 UTC | reply to this comment | To reply to the description stuff, conan was described l8er on as being 5'8 during his youth, though not fully grown u must remember that hyborria had an avrg height description as 5 foot or close about, and only the men from the south or the largest of the cimmerians were bigger (conan for example), and dnt forget, Dwayne Johnson (the rock) has got jet back hair and fits the body description of broad, 6'5 (so he can also fit a description of tall) obviously powerfully built and dnt forget arnold only get the role coz he looks like a cave man and has an accent (though should be a subtle scotish accent), cnt rly say much for vin diesel, and ROB dnt forget the part of his description which cleerly states him having a bronze body from being out in the sun wearing little armour and adventuring so please, read the books, i have only seen small glimpses of the description, arnold can't plain and simple, ur being foolish if you think he owe's it to any1, he owe's it to his state by not doing such a thing. |

| Comment #8 by: JessCruzin on 28 Aug 2009, 02:10 UTC | reply to this comment | I think that if there is another conan movie I think The wrestler Triple H should play conan and not only he looks alittle like him he can act too. |

| Comment #11 by: griffo on 12 Mar 2010, 08:40 UTC | reply to this comment | i think a conan movie without schwarzenegger is like dirty harry without clint eastwood or rocky without stallone. For all hard-core schwarzenegger fans, this is a big kick in the nuts to not have arnie star. This sequel will need to have closure to the second movie conan the destroyer (1984). I think it's fantastic that John Millius is considering having an input as he directed the first movie. As for Schwarzenegger's current physical appearance, I think he can pull it off if the movie is set in snow and a very cold area/climate. He will have to have a beard as he did at the end of the first two conan movies when he was seated on his thrown.
The movie will have to revolve around his lost love, Valeria and his quest for inner peace since she was killed by Thulsa Doom in the first movie. I think it would have to have a bitter sweet ending of conan dying and be reunited with Valeria and have them walk through the gates of Valhela together. I think casting anyone but arnie and calling it a sequel is a tremendous insult to arnie fans and would not do the first two movies justice.
This is just some of what I think, if you would like to email me with further arnie discussions I would be more than happy.

| Comment #12 by: fan on 22 Jun 2011, 00:04 UTC | reply to this comment | I would like to see another Conan
movie. But Schwarzenegger would
have to play Conan. The movie would
have to be more like Conan: The
Barbarian & not like Conan: The
Destroyer. The second movie was ok
but it sucked compared to the first
movie. If a third movie was made
Hollywood would f**k it up. They
would be thinking of how much money
they can make with the film & not on
how the fans of the first movie will
think of it. I think that is why most
movie sequels bomb at the box office. |
