ASUS has unveiled a Retina display MacBook Pro competitor

Computex has kicked off today in Taiwan, with ASUS pulling the veil off some new products in the process.

We have talked about the impressive Zenbook NX500 in the past and now ASUS has made the device official. As Hardware blog reports, the laptop is a 15.6-inch Ultrabook that offers 4K display (3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution). Under the hood ASUS has thrown an Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GTX 850 graphics and 16GB of RAM.

A while back, I speculated the Zenbook NX500 might arrive on the market bundling Intel’s 5th-gen architecture (Broadwell), but it appears this is not the case, as ASUS is still making use of the Haswell platform.

The new ASUS Zenbook NX500 will probably make a worthy Retina display MacBook Pro contender. On top of the pro-screen and worthy hardware, the laptop also makes use of ASUS’ own “VisualMaster” display tech with its color gamut covering 100% of the NTSC spectrum and 108% of Adobe RBG.

Moreover, the 2.2 kg Ultrabook has titanium-film speakers and SonicMaster audio technology which blends ICEpower and Bang & Olufsen systems.

As ASUS rarely offers details about pricing and availability of its new devices in press conferences, we don’t know how much the NX500 will retail for, but it’s probably going to be a whole lot.
