Malware has the first chance to win the battle

There's nothing new in the title, we have always seen such a battle because viruses keep appearing while security companies struggle to stop them. Until now, our computers were somehow the same, with a few exceptions when the infections managed to cause serious damages. But it seems like things are going to change in the future. As PC World reported a few days ago, the malware infections caused major problems for all security products on the market as only a few of them managed to identify, block and remove the threats. That's why 2008 may be a pretty dangerous year from all points of view: more powerful threats and more infected computers.

"PC World's recent tests of security suites found that new malware easily evaded the applications. In our tests of how well security software blocks unknown malicious programs, the best performer detected only one in four new malware samples. In contrast, February 2007 results from similar heuristics testing showed that the best utilities caught about half of new", PC World wrote in an article published a few days ago.

Sure, it sounds like nightmare, but it may happen. The virus writers are using all kinds of tricks to make their threats more dangerous and more difficult to be spotted. For example, scanning them with most antivirus on the market is just one of these techniques. Because if they find any antivirus that blocks their piece of malware, they will keep re-building it, unless it becomes undiscoverable. And trust me, it's extremely easy to do that.

There are several websites out there which enable consumers to scan a file with multiple antiviruses in the same time. Although they are supposed to be helpful tools, they can easily turn into our worst enemies, because virus writers may load their piece of malware and scan them using the mentioned services. And in case there's something wrong with their threat, they will rebuild it. Simple as that!
