Alongside FCP X 10.0.4, this week Apple released Compressor 4.0.3, an update to its video and audio media compression and encoding application for use with Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio on Mac OS X.

According to a technical note on Apple Support, “Compressor version 4.0.3 is an update to Compressor 4. The update is recommended for all users of Compressor 4.”

“Compressor 4.0.3 adds functionality and improves overall performance,” Apple continues.

Specifically, the update brings the ability to run Compressor on a Mac without a monitor, fixes an issue with exporting when logged in as an Open Directory user, improves performance when encoding MP4 and AVI files, and adds an export setting for 1080p video on compatible iOS devices.

Compressor is a 50 dollar app (39.99 EUR) available from the Mac App Store for systems running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later.
