Austin Wintory, the composer working on the upcoming Ouya title Soul Fjord, says that he wants to make rhythm the core element of the experience, which aims to mix funk music and roguelike in terms of mechanics.

Speaking to Gamasutra, he explains that rhythm is “the thing of most importance. The melody and baseline act in service of the game experience, but it's the beat that's tied directly to the core mechanics.”

Wintory has previously worked on Flow and on The Banner Saga, experiences that were praised for the way they used music in order to expand the world that gamers are exploring.

Soul Fjord’s development is being led by Kim Swift, the designer of the first Portal title, and Airtight Games says that it is happy to work with the team that created the Ouya because of the enthusiasm they are bringing to the project.
