The new Compaq nc2400 provides the best security, durability and endurance at the lowest price ($1,599) for a light notebook (under four pounds). HP chose a different design for its device. As a result, contrasting with the shiny or shimmer like notebook cases, this one is business oriented, looking like a miniature version of other conservative HP devices.
The new HP notebook features one of the most advanced protection systems available on the market, as it has a magnesium frame and casing, and
a Mobile Data Protection 3D accelerometer to help protect the notebook's hardware from impact. Also, the ProtectTools and standard fingerprint scanner makes the latest HP notebook one of the most secure ultraportables.
In addition, the area below the keyboard is covered with a special film, which makes the surface resistant to scratches from fingernails and watches. HP thought of everything, so it featured also a line of touch-sensitive buttons above the keyboard, including HP Info center, wireless on/off, mute, a long strip for volume adjustment, and presentation settings, which allow for quick display and power setting adjustments.
However, the software features aren't quite impressive, including only a WinDVD, Sonic Digital Media Plus, and a 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security.
As the notebook has a business target, the 12.1-inch widescreen is a handy compact size for use in small spaces like airplanes. The user can utilize also a pointing stick located in the middle of the keyboard, with the right- and left-click buttons positioned directly below the space bar.
The system is powered by a 1.2-GHz Intel Core Solo U1400 processor and a standard 512MB of RAM.
The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 will not be useful for games like WarCraft, but it will be perfect for a long DVD movie night, as the six-cell battery lasts 5 hours and 45 minutes. You can also upgrade it to a nine-cell battery for $50 more, which should give you about nine hours of runtime.
