Video game developer Relic and publisher SEGA are announcing that their real-time strategy title Company of Heroes 2 will soon get access to a new standalone expansion called Ardennes Assault, which will allow gamers to experience one of the most complicated and dramatic moments of World War II.

The new experience will focus on the Battle of the Bulge, which took place late, as Europe was being liberated, and saw a limited number of American forces, many of them inexperienced, battle in order to stop a last offensive of the battle-tested and capable forces of the German Army.

The Ardennes Assault expansion for Company of Heroes 2 will allow gamers to take control of the United States army units as they battle in deep snow and subzero temperatures against the German Oberkommando West forces.

The standalone release will allow gamers to get through 18 single-player scenarios, each of them designed to focus on one moment in the larger battle and to deliver a number of unique tactical challenges to the player.

Relic says that three new Companies can be chosen in Ardennes Offensive and that, as the campaign progresses, gamers will make choices that affect the flow of the combat.

The official announcement claims that “Player choices are crucial as every decision will not only impact the story but also their Company with upgrades and Veterancy carrying over from mission to mission. With limited soldiers under your command, you must manage their lives and well-being effectively or risk losing that Company for good. Will you lead your Company valiantly and emerge as heroes?”

Greg Wilson, the executive producer working on Company of Heroes 2 at Relic Entertainment, adds, “We can’t wait to bring our players this awesome new single-player campaign for Company of Heroes 2. We managed to include more missions in this expansion than we had in the original release and it’s packed full of great new features which we’ll be revealing over the coming months.”

The expansion will be focused on just the single-player element of the real-time strategy title.

Ardennes Assault for Company of Heroes 2 will be launched on the PC on November 18 of this year.

Relic has also said that it will continue to add new armies to the title in order to deliver more variety, and gamers can also get access to new commanders each week, with unique abilities.
