The development team at Relic and publisher SEGA are delivering a new major update for their real-time strategy title Company of Heroes 2, which is designed to introduce a new observer mode and to give the community a set of new mod tools that can be used to create new content for the game, while also making a big number of balance-focused changes that are designed to improve the gameplay experience.

The Observer mode is meant to offer a better way to livestream matches with increased opportunities for strategy analysis, with varying perspectives and speeds.

Relic says that the user interface can be customized, more than 500 people can watch a live match at once, and the mode can be configured for more than 10,000 for special events.

The chat function has also been upgraded in order to make it easier to deal with abuse and more changes are set to be introduced in the future.

At the same time, Company of Heroes 2 is also getting access to a set of comprehensive mod tools.

Gamers can use an Attribute Editor to modify elements like weapons damage, squad loadouts and abilities that they can use, while the Tuning Packs can package up all the changes in order to make it easier to share them with the community.

Win Condition mods can also be created and an Archive Viewer is introduced in order to unpack proprietary Relic files and modify them.

Relic states on the official site that “You may be reading all of this and thinking ‘that’s great, but it’s way too technical for me so I don’t really care…’ but even if you don’t plan on creating mods yourself, this is something to get super hyped about! These tools will allow your peers in the Company of Heroes Community to create exciting new game experiences for you, in addition to all of the cool stuff Relic will continue to update.”

In order to show the power of the tools, the studio has created a new Attrition mode.

Company of Heroes 2 also gets a wide range of balance changes

The big Halloween patch for Company of Heroes 2 is also making a huge amount of changes to the core gameplay of the real-time strategy title set in World War II.

Relic has improved the way squads move and get into cover and has made them better able to respond to player commands.

The AI is also better able to use all the special powers included in Company of Heroes 2.

A list of everything that’s being changed is available on the official forums.
