Oil and gas group Santos is reportedly trying to improve employees’ mobility by providing them with Windows 8 devices, thus replacing either Windows XP or 7 computers and laptops currently used across the company.

Bit is reporting that the company wants to switch to Windows 8 for on-the-go productivity, as workers have asked for a device that could be easily carried around, but that’s also capable to provide the same great features of a laptop.

The Surface Pro is indeed one of the possible choices, but Santos is willing to use Windows To Go to also give workers the option of picking another Windows 8 device.

“A lot of people that do travel frequently want something lighter and more portable than a laptop. We’re finding they’re supplementing their laptop with an iPad or an Android device, and they said ‘Well I still don’t have full functionality out of the iPad’,” Santos team leader of desktops Chris Cardillo was quoted as saying.

This is obviously good news for Microsoft, as the tech giant thus manages to kill two birds with one stone: move consumers from Windows XP, while also increasing the user base of Windows 8.
