The one thing that is seriously sucky about keeping a pet is knowing that, well, they expire long before we do. Unless one's pet of choice happens to be a tortoise, in which case there really isn't anything to worry about, that is.

With this thought in mind, a company based in the city of Louisville in Kentucky, US, decided to start making plush clones of people's pets. These toy copies of actual living and breathing animals, some of which are featured in the photos included in the gallery below, are stunningly realistic.

True, the company, dubbed Cuddle Clones Inc., chiefly makes plush clones of deceased dogs, cats and all sorts of other animals that guys and gals turn to for company. Still, founder Jennifer Graham says that some folks make copies of their pets while they are still very much alive.

How does cloning your pet work?

According to Oddity Central, those looking to have a plush clone of their beloved pet lying around their home need only send Cuddle Clone Inc. a photo of the animal. More precisely, they must upload the photo on the company's online store.

Having completed this step, they can move on to choosing details like how they want the toy's ears and the tail to be positioned. Based on the photo and the specifications provided by owners, Cuddle Clone Inc. can get to work making realistic plush copies of the pets.

Company founder Jennifer Graham says that the so-called cuddle clones are all made from carefully selected materials that match the color of each of the pets they are supposed to represent. More precisely, she say that high-quality is the company's chief concern.

Furthermore, “From sending someone a Cuddle Clone to hug to cope with the loss of their pet to sending a teenager off to college with a plush version of their best friend, we really are creating big smiles. As pet lovers ourselves, it makes us happy knowing that our customers are happy.”

How much does a plush clone cost?

Just in case some of you are considering getting a cuddle clone for yourselves, you should know that smaller animals like lizards, birds, ferrets, fish and the like cost $129 (roughly €112) to turn into a toy. Cats, dogs and other bigger animals can be cloned for $199 (some €174).

Jennifer Graham says that, presently, the company she started sells at least one plush clone per day. She goes on to detail that most of the company's new customers are people who got to see one such toy and decided that they wanted one themselves.
