C² Technologies, Inc. has delivered what it calls “the first segment” in a series of seven iPhone applications developed to train Patriot Missile crews for the U.S. Army, the company has announced today.

In its ongoing efforts to serve the Federal Government, defense, Intelligence Community, as well as commercial customers, C²’s offerings span diverse practice areas ranging from training/e-learning and mission-critical outsourcing, to software development and strategic communications.

C² was ‘recruited’ by the U.S. Army to develop a series of seven mobile apps for training Patriot missile crews in late September 2010.

Using a “develop once, use twice” technical approach, the Vienna, VA-based company developed apps that can be used both on computers, and on Apple iPhones.

The company’s C² Patriot Missile app was developed using the Unity 3D game development platform as part of the Army’s Connecting Soldiers to Digital Applications (CSDA) program.

C² Patriot Missile incorporates a video of actual Patriot Missile crews in action as well as 3D animation and illustrations.

C² is also producing complementary Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) training lessons designed for use in a classroom with an instructor, as part of the same project.

“Mobile apps on handheld devices allow the soldier to train any time, any place, and can provide access to critical information in the field,” said Dolly Oberoi, C²’s founder and chief executive officer.

“They leverage the ability to train outside the traditional classroom, improve training effectiveness, and can greatly reduce resources required.”

In accordance with the features implemented in the C² Patriot Missile app, the training covers positioning and readying the Patriot Missile system to launch and fire, and includes the mobile app and associated classroom training for each of the following seven areas:

- Launch Station march order and emplacement - Radar march order and emplacement - Engagement Control Station march order and emplacement - Antenna Mast Group march order and emplacement - Electrical Power Plant march order and emplacement - Missile reload - Radar maintenance.
