After Fujitsu’s laptop for active seniors, here comes the tablet you can buy for your grandpa or grandma. If laptops might seem a little bit chunky for elderly folks to carry around, a tablet might seem the right alternative.

Dutch company Compaan have created the tablet in order to encourage seniors to actively communicate with their family, friends and caregivers (via TabletGuide).

The machine bundles a wooden frame and comes pre-installed with specialized software. To counteract accidental damage, Compaan has ruggedized the slate, making it resilient to accidental drops.

Furthermore, the slate has large buttons that are easily visible and can be handled without necessitating precise movements. The Compaan senior tablet also comes with a specialized companion app that works both on phones and desktop PCs.

The application allows family and care givers to set up a medication schedule with reminders of when to take which pills. There’s a fun side of the application, of course, as grandmom and granddad can now share photographs, blog posts, games and news.

To add to the fun, the tablet can double as a digital picture frame too, so when not in use, it can display the users’ favorite family photographs. For now, we don’t have the details regarding pricing or availability.
