Software security vendor Comodo has released an antivirus application for Mac OS X promising to deliver state-of-the-art virus protection at no cost.
The free antivirus solution features an 'always on' real-time protection, a constantly updated database of known viruses, and an on-demand scanner, according to its developers. “Comodo Antivirus will provide superior protection against zero-day malware,” says the company.
Users can scan individual files or folders by dragging them to the CAV icon in the dock, set virus scans to run on a schedule, run on-demand scanning and cleaning of their system, etc.
The OS requirements are as low as Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), but the program will not run on PowerPC computers (Intel-only).
