People from different security websites thought this was over, the Comodo community thought this was over, we thought this was over. We were all wrong. Yesterday, we received yet another email from the Comodo PR team. Although after publishing the article Softpedia barely made a few statements concerning this matter – all intended to
relieve some of the tension, underlining the fact that we respect the Comodo team and its community and we did not intend to make a media scandal out of a public statement regarding our position and principles – we received a follow-up ending as the first cease and desist did: with a warning of redress. If the first email targeted the listing of Comodo Internet Security on Softpedia, this time, the innocent "victim" is the very article that explained our actions ( Comodo Software Removed from Softpedia). This second email focuses on two paragraphs that might leave room for misinterpretation and do not properly explain the installation process. That being said, from Comodo’s point of view, the user is made aware of the option to install SafeSurf several times, for example: a user may uncheck the first two boxes (“Install COMODO SafeSurf, I agree to the above terms” and “Make Ask.com my default search provider”) or a user cannot proceed without clicking the “ Next” button. Furthermore, Comodo shared with us their own concept of the word attempt, which, apparently, is a change made behind the scene and hidden. Although the reasoning in this second mail continues to ignore the fact that our concept and definition of adware is not up for discussion, nor will it be changed in favor of a certain company or software, we have updated the article for the second time. We feel the current version eliminates any ambiguities in the article that, as stated above, might have left room for misinterpretation, and clarifies our opinion regarding the setup process, from both our and the average end-user’s point of view.

| Comment #1 by: Tomsk on 06 May 2009, 17:25 GMT | reply to this comment | I think what you are doing is correct. CIS is a good security program, unfortunately Comodo are relying on inexperienced users to speed through the install process and not even notice the trash that comes with the software.
If it had an opt-in install more people, I am sure would, bypass the 'adware' and Comodo would see little gain. I am aware they need to make money to provide this software for free, but for a TRUSTED security company this is not good...opt-in or not at all! |
| Comment #2 by: gimpguy on 07 May 2009, 06:46 GMT | reply to this comment | The fact of the matter is Comodo is not only attacking and pushing out anyone who opposes the toolbar, but trying to bully Softpedia as well. They say Softpedia makes their own definition, moot point, it's still Softpedia who decides who stays and who goes on THEIR site, NOT Comodo. As well, if it's so plain that Comodo isn't worried about it, that there are X amount of users, blah blah blah, they don't care, etc... then why keep sending Softpedia all these emails, why Comodo? Worried about something?
I was reading articles online where Comodo says they WELCOME the BAD feedback just as good. Well.... just read the forum and TELL ME, does it sound true to anyone? Notice how users who oppose the toolbar get beaten down by other users and some mods, then when just about stomped to the ground, Melih or other certain mods, swoop down for the "one hit kill." Pathetic. That's the way it seems to work there, in their own territory, their own little false kingdom.
While I have no interest in Comodo software or forum any longer, I see other users who try to get a point across, getting attacked by the very same method.
I say challenge Comodo...
Get rid of the toolbar...
Charge 29.99 for CIS since it's sooooo good and surely with the "Comodo Cult" all these people should open heartedly support you!
Now, watch carefully as their "grand followers" begin to drop off the face of Planet Comodo!
I'll get the popcorn! |

Actually this is due to the fact that Softpedia is possible violating the law..
Comodo has the fullest right to respond and send legal papers when they belive softpedia is not playing by the rules.. |
| Comment #5 by: John E. Buchanan on 07 May 2009, 18:03 GMT | reply to this comment | At least Comodo's forums are open to all comments. I fund it interesting to note only supporters of Softpedia are getting their posts published. All others that opose them are not.
What does that say of Softpedia's censorship? |
| Comment #5.1 by: gimpguy2000 on 07 May 2009, 20:46 GMT | It takes Softpedia sometimes a day to post a comment here, so no, Comodo is not being picked on as in the forum how everyone thinks Softpedia is censoring. Talk about making a mountain... or false accusations.... |
| Comment #5.2 by: Nozavi on 07 May 2009, 21:07 GMT | Rest assured that all comments, approving or otherwise, are published. Just have a look at the first article ("Comodo Software Removed from Softpedia"), comments number 13, 18, 23, 30, 32.2, 48.
Foul language is, however, another story for several reasons... |
| Comment #6 by: gimpguy2000 on 07 May 2009, 18:27 GMT | reply to this comment | Notice on the Comodo forum, the changes Softpedia made are getting attacked as well even though with good intent.
Let's see who is misleading who...

Obviously the Comodo CEO cannot read either "LOL" as right above...
Obviously it was due to tone this down and humor Comodo after another email FROM Comodo. Obviously it IS stated above. Obviously they DID tell the readers. Obviously, Comodo needs to get a life and quit twisting details to their own benefit. |
| Comment #7 by: Commodus on 07 May 2009, 21:58 GMT | reply to this comment | Good job Softpedia for standing your ground! |
| Comment #8 by: tomsk on 08 May 2009, 15:49 GMT | reply to this comment | Softpedia also have AVG free and Avira free listed as including Adware, but those two respected security vendors don't seem to have a problem.
If something contains some form of advertising software then it indeed should be labeled as 'adware'. I use Avira free, it has it's own form of adware in the notifier... it's known by many as paymen for the software being free.
CIS has it's own form, what's the big deal, get real comodo what makes you more special than AVG or Avira...if anything I'd mistrust you further for behaving in such a heavy handed manner, appalling. |
| Comment #9 by: gimpguy2000 on 08 May 2009, 17:24 GMT | reply to this comment | Once again Comodo proves my point. Someone against the toolbar, their answer gets dodged constantly, they get their words twisted by others, finally the threats begin, they get told they are acting like a 5 year old, they finally delete their account and tried to post a PM from a moderator which I guess we'll never see now as it's "against the law" according to Comodo. So essentially, they have pulled the same stunt on yet another user who opposed the toolbar. Notice how anyone who opposes their "ideals" are flamers or trolls. Wow, to think they were members at one time.
My point proven yet again when you see how Melih and mods go in for the final kill AFTER the user is gone so they get their "unopposed" final say.
Bottom line, it's rediculous and I hope that some with morals over freeware will see just how people are treated there who simply don't agree.
