While one company gets sued for auto hopping, another approaches the matter

Not so long after a lawsuit started over a TV provider daring to allow customers to skip commercials, DirecTV is thinking of implementing something of the sort as well.

It isn't treading the same dangerous waters as the brave and steadfast Dish though. Probably because it doesn't want a lawsuit on its hands.

Instead, it figured it was safe enough to at least allow its customers to skip commercials on programs they recorded.

That is to say, it will provide a technology for DVRs to use in identifying when a commercial break starts and ends. Thus, owners will get to watch their favorite shows and skip over the whole jumbled mess known as ads.

DirecTV is also implied to be considering the idea of true commercial skipping, but it will probably wait to see what comes of Dish's attempt.
