Electronic Arts (Los Angeles) has announced the release of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 for Macintosh, the third installment in the popular RTS series. The game adds a fresh story, new units, breathtaking cutscenes using real actors, an emphasis on Co-Op and a well-balanced multiplayer experience. Every faction is backed by an intricate story sure to captivate even Red Alert newcomers.

“After years of conflict, the Allies are finally on the brink of victory,” the game's plot goes. “Cowering behind the walls of the Kremlin, the Soviets decide to turn to one last act of desperation - the use of an experimental time travel device. The mission: to go back in time to eliminate Albert Einstein before he creates the technologies that will lead the Allies to ultimate victory. After a successful mission, the Soviets return to the present, discovering the Allied position has weakened. But before they can truly celebrate, they find out their actions have spawned a new threat and global superpower, the mysterious, technologically advanced, Empire of the Rising Sun. Welcome to World War III.”

With Red Alert 3, Electronic Arts has decided to bring back everything fans loved about the series, according to the giant developer and publisher of video games - “the humor, the popcorn style story and the franchise's fast, action-oriented gameplay, while breaking new ground for the genre, with an entirely co-operative, story-driven campaign mode and an increased emphasis on naval gameplay,” the company says.

According to the game's fact sheet, players will now have a unique Co-Op experience. “Every mission is designed from the ground-up with co-operative gameplay in mind,” according to EA. However, players will first need to gain strategic advantages by controlling resources in the seas and mounting three-pronged attacks from all directions. Topping it all are Command & Conquer's trademark live-action videos, now in HD, with over 60 minutes of footage featuring the largest cast in the history of the Command & Conquer franchise.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 requirements include a Mac with an Intel processor (Intel Core Duo), Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard or higher, 1024MB RAM, ATI X1600 / NVIDIA 7300 GT graphics, 10 gigs of hard drive space, and peripherals - keyboard & mouse. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 costs $39.99 to buy and is now available for Mac via GameTreeOnline.
