An unlikely alliance

We have been talking about the fourth installment in the Command & Conquer franchise Tiberium storyline a lot in these past few weeks. As we found out a survey in which players were asked what kind of features they would like to see in a new C&C game, it seemed that the new game might be announced quite soon. Yesterday, we saw EA's UK public relations Twitter account accidentally reveal the announcement of the new title, and things seemed pretty much certain.

Now, Electronic Arts finally decided to make things official and has announced that Command & Conquer 4 is currently under development at EA Los Angeles. After 15 years of history and over 30 million games sold, the C&C franchise will see the “epic conclusion” to its Tiberium storyline. Set to be launched in 2010 only for the PC, the title will have a lot of new features, many already known about from the leaked survey.

Some of the new things will be the objective-based multiplayer mode, in a 5 vs 5 manner, a new player-progression system that will deliver a fresh, new experience, and an epic unit, in the form of the mobile base, which will be used by the factions present in the game.

“Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with an amazing 15-year legacy. We are thrilled to bring the dramatic Tiberium saga to a conclusion in Command & Conquer 4. This game is designed to give fans all the answers they’ve been looking for,” Mike Glosecki, lead producer of Command & Conquer 4 at EA Los Angeles, said. “With its objective-based multiplayer mode, persistent player progression and all-in-one mobile base, players will experience Command & Conquer like never before.”

In terms of story, C&C fans will certainly be in a for a shock, as it seems that, with six years left before the Tiberium infestation renders the Earth uninhabitable, the two dueling factions, the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod, will have to work together in order to prevent the destruction of mankind. This unlikely alliance starts with the leader of Nod, Kane, going into the GDI headquarters, with his plans top secret.

From what the press release says, it seems that the alien Scrin faction won't be featured, and that players will be able to progress through the two single-player campaigns in both solo and cooperative mode. Hopefully, we will see new details be revealed in the following weeks.
