EyeCandy is designed to encourage kids to read and play

Touted as the world's first kids comic for iPhone, EyeCandy is now available on iTunes for $0.99 as a (total) re-make of Murderome. The app isn't just a comic, but a color book as well. Kids can swipe from left to right to move through the pages, or up and down to strip the chatters and the setting of their color.

Some may remember that Infurious (Blue Pilot Software) once developed an app called Murderome. It got rejected by Apple, as it was not suitable for all ages (when's Apple going to implement a rating system anyway?), thus prompting the developers to approach the concept of comics on iPhone differently. And so, EyeCandy was born.

The application is designed to encourage kids to read and play. The comic not only lets you skim through the pages intuitively, but also offers the ability to rid the characters and settings of their color. As soon as users do this, they can call up a color palette, pick their favorite colors and start painting the pages to their liking. Bored, or simply not satisfied with your work? Simply shake the device to restore the page. But there's more.

The app's creator, PJ Holden, shows in a YouTube video demonstration of the app (below) that, at the end of the each episode, users get a bonus. In the first issue of the comic (watch out, spoiler ahead), readers are awarded one of the characters: the Donkey. There's even more. With Donkey on screen, you can shake the device to hear it... well, make donkey sounds. Should every next bonus have functional purposes too (making use of the iPhone's touchscreen and / or accelerometer), we can't wait 'till the next issue is out.

EyeCandy is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch and requires firmware 2.0 (or later). The application can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store, here.
