They've been direct competitors for years now, but the two most successful animated series on TV are coming together for a special episode that will have you tearing up with laughter. It's “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” crossover special!

A five-minute preview of the special episode has been unveiled at Comic-Con 2014, and it's basically what you'd expect from an hour-long episode where the Simpson family and the Griffin family come together on screen for the first time.

The plot shows how the Griffins arrive in Springfield by accident and they befriend one of TV's oldest animated families, the Simpsons. Peter and Homer are the first to strike up a friendship, primarily because they share the same interest in donuts.

The producers couldn't help make a jibe about the yellow coloring of the Simpson's characters. At one point, Peter says, “Don't drink the water around here, everyone around here looks like they have hepatitis.”

Bart and Stewie are the next to bond, and the young Stewie seems to be in awe of Bart's mischievous qualities. Presumably, the rest of the family members also make nice, but they aren't shown in this trailer.

As you might have expected, it's not long until the two families begin to quibble, and it all culminates with Homer and Peter's epic fight (something often seen in “Family Guy”) who end up in the nuclear power plant and even in outer space.

If you've loved the gags in the trailer and can't wait to see the character interaction, you'll have to wait just a little longer, as the episode won't be aired until this September on Fox.
