The 2014 edition of Comic-Con is about to kick off in San Diego, and this being the biggest multi-genre event of the year, many movie studios are bringing their films there for promotional purposes. Warner Bros. will also be doing that for its much-hyped “Mad Max: Fury Road,” a remake of the 1979 original with Mel Gibson as lead.

Before the Warners panel happens at Comic-Con, above is a taste of what’s coming: this is the first official poster for the film, with the sarcastic tagline “What a lovely day.”

You don’t even have to have seen the original film to know that this will be anything but a “lovely” day, just look at the poster (click on the image for the full version). That’s Tom Hardy in Mad Max character, standing beside his beat-up car in the desert.

The film also stars Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and will be out in theaters in May 2015. It’s already been delayed twice, so here’s hoping the third time is the lucky one.

Written and directed by George Miller, as per the official synopsis, “Fury Road” tells the story of how “Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.”

In the most recent EW issue, Miller said that the most remarkable thing about the film was the fact that it played out like one continuous, absolutely insane action scene. Are you hyped about it yet?
