“My name is Max, my world is fire”: Warners releases footage shown at Hall H

Warner Bros. showed the first trailer for their eagerly anticipated reboot, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” over the weekend, at Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 but they’re not leaving fans at home, not able to attend the convention, hanging out to dry.

A shorter version of what was shown in San Diego has been released online and is available in full and in HD below.

This trailer is about 1 minute shorter than the clip screened for fans at the convention, but it’s just as visually gorgeous, action-packed, and suspenseful.

Written and directed by George Miller, the film stars Tom Hardy as Mad Max, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The costumes by Jenny Beavan are more impressive than anything any “Mad Max” fan could have imagined, but it’s the way Miller handles the camera that most stands out.

Never before have we seen car crashes shot in a more original way.

Miller is also the director of the original “Mad Max” with Mel Gibson but it looks like, with this new iteration, he’s managed to create an entirely new film, more beautiful and more violent than its predecessor. Let’s just hope that it’s not only the editing of the trailer that gives this impression.

In a recent interview, he said that he wanted “Fury Road” to feel like one continuous action scene, and this trailer is definitely edited to create the same impression. The fact that there is very little dialog helps with this – but when there is dialog, it’s just as epic.

“My name is Max and my world is fire,” Hardy says at the beginning of the trailer, as he’s standing by his car, looking over the desert. On the radio, we get a summary of what has happened to the world, an introduction into this new one, where the fight for water and gasoline has replaced everything else.

Later on in the trailer, we hear Charlize’s Imperator Furiosa asking Max what his name is. His answer isn’t shown, but if you think about it, there was no sense to include that since he’d already introduced himself in the opening shot.

“Fury Road” was initially supposed to come out much earlier than May 15, 2015, having been postponed twice because production was taking longer than anticipated. What with the extended shoots, the budget went over the limit and there was even some talk that the final film would turn out to be a dud and no one would want to see it when it finally came out.

Judging by this first trailer, we’d say that is certainly not the case. Do you plan on seeing it in theaters? Check out the video and let us know in the comments section below.
