On the first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2014, ahead of the release of the first official trailer for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1,” Lionsgate has introduced a brand new poster for the film. This time, it has nothing to do with the characters that we’ve come to know and love, and more with what’s in store for us with the next installment.

To a newbie to the franchise, the new art (click on the image above to see it in full) might not mean anything, other than the obvious observation that it’s visually stunning. It was made by street artist WK Interact.

The contrast between the black in which the soldier (certainly a rebel from District 13) is drawn and the red of the mockingjay stamp is beautiful.

To fans of the franchise, the mere fact that the poster is stamped with the mockingjay is reason to get excited: it means that Katniss Everdeen, aka the Mockingjay, is joining the rebellion to free the people of Panem.

Lionsgate anticipated the release of this poster by launching a viral teaser a few days ago. You will find it embedded below: it’s a message from the Capitol, cut short by a clandestine message from District 13 (which the Capitol says doesn’t exist), announcing that “the Mockingjay lives.”

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” arrives in theaters in November. A full trailer will debut this week.
