You simply can't have a comic convention, especially not the one in San Diego, the largest of its kind in the world, and exclude “Game of Thrones,” the HBO fantasy series that has become a worldwide phenomenon.

On Friday, July 25, two of the showrunners for “Game of Thrones” made an official announcement in which they presented some of the additions to the cast for season 5 of the series. These were needed to fill in the gaps left behind by so many other characters that were killed in the most ingenious ways by George R.R. Martin, the author of the books the show is based on.

The announcement was made in the form of a video where actors such as Jonathan Pryce and Alexander Siddig revealed they were really excited to be part of the show in the upcoming season. Price, for example, is going to play the High Sparrow, a mysterious new religious leader that is going to take King's Landing by storm.

Siddig is going to be cast as Prince Oberyn Martell's brother, Doran Martell. Other roles that needed recasting include that of Cersei's daughter, Myrcella Baratheon, as she grows up in the show. She was previously played by Aimee Richardson and now she will be played by Nell Tiger Free.

Keisha Castle Hughes is going to play Obara Sand, Jessica Henwick will play Nymeria “Nym” Sand, Rosabella Laurenti Sellers will be Tyrene Sand, DeObia Oparei will be Areo Hotah, and Enzo Cilenti will be Yezzan.

The producers also promised that “Game of Thrones” would turn its attention in the new season to the Kingdom of Dorne after the gruesome death of the Red Viper. The team used Spain as the main location to portray Dorne.
