14 DAY TRIAL // A few days ago, Marvel announced that, starting this fall, their comic book series with Thor would see him replaced by a woman because he was no longer worthy to wield the Mjölnir. This got fans wondering about how the change might reflect in the Marvel cinematic universe: could this spell the end for Chris Hemsworth?
The Australian actor was on the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 over the weekend, to promote “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” his fourth movie as God of Thunder. Despite assurances from Marvel people that Chris would not be replaced in the movies, he told fans that, even if he was, they still had no reason to worry.
Apparently, Chris is willing to try to play Thor as a woman if that’s what the script requires of him, the Daily Mail reports.
“Turn him into a woman,” Hemsworth said when asked what he’d like to see from Thor in his next Marvel film. “I don't want to jinx it, but I think it could be my Oscar,” he laughed, referring to the Academy’s not-so-secret love for physical transformations when it decides who should win an Oscar, mostly in the Best Actor / Actress category.
Perhaps anticipating the reactions of some fans online to this, Marvel screenwriter Stephen McFeely chimed in to say that, joke or no joke from Hemsworth, he remained “Thor in the cinema universe.”
So that settles it: even if Marvel never brings back the male Thor in the comics, Hemsworth will still play him in the movies, at least until his present contract expires.
