He would probably be better received in the role than Ben Affleck

To paraphrase a famous line from Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” Ben Affleck is the Batman the world deserves, but not the one it needs wants right now. He was cast as the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and if rumors are correct, he’s on board for at least a handful of more movies.

And yet the best choice was another: Benedict Cumberbatch. I’ll explain.

Cumberbatch arrived at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 some hours ago to promote his next project, “Penguins of Madagascar,” which opens on November 26 and will feature voice work from the star. He could not attend the convention last year because of other work commitments, so he was pretty excited to make his debut now.

At one point during the panel for the movie, one audience member asked him which classic comic book character he’d most like to play, Variety reports. Cumberbatch’s reply was: “Batman, I guess, yeah.”

How could Warner Bros. not see this and not do everything in their power to secure him for the role? He’s already proved he can act, delivering one solid performance after another, but also that he can bulk up for the role, after doing so to play Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

He has an interesting face, albeit a bit odd, that would look great with Batman’s cowl, and a voice that can’t go unnoticed because it’s deep and velvety. He would have been perfect for the part, as his millions of fans (known collectively as the Cumberladies) must agree.

Unfortunately, this will most likely never happen. Affleck is here to stay and all those Batman fans who have a problem with him being cast for the role have no other choice but to take it or leave it, as a popular saying goes.
