What with “Pacific Rim” showing destruction on the biggest scale ever while focusing mostly on the human characters, it seems like we have a new standard monster movies must live up to. The new “Godzilla” seems on the right track in this regard.

As announced a few days ago, the first teaser trailer for it premiered at Comic-Con 2013 in San Diego over the weekend.

It is not yet available online – and won’t be if not released officially by Legendary Pictures – but Slash Film notes that it wowed audiences with great special effects and what looked like the promise of a solid story.

“Obviously this is an early teaser, but I’m surprised how character centric the footage looked. We didn’t see much huge destruction, but when it did happen it was awesome. The one shot dolly inside the airport with the destruction ricocheting like a bunch of dominos was a masterful composition and a refreshing take on large scale destruction,” the e-zine writes.

“Godzilla” stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, and Sally Hawkins, and will be out in May 2014.
