Tom Cruise may get a lot of hate for his religious beliefs (especially with celebrity bloggers) but there’s no denying that he’s still a money-making action movie star. His upcoming project is “Edge of Tomorrow,” and he hit Comic-Con 2013 to promote it.

Cruise was joined on the panel by Emily Blunt and director Doug Liman. They introduced a brief video from the film (not quite a trailer) and, as expected, took questions from fans and the media, Slash Film reports.

“Edge of Tomorrow” was initially called “All You Need Is Kill” and tells the story of a soldier who dies in combat (against the aliens) and, for some inexplicable reason, is caught in a time loop that will make him relive his final day over and over again.

In time, he will use this time loop to perfect himself as a soldier and acquire vital knowledge to defeat the enemy.

The emphasis on the panel fell on the fact that this isn’t just another mindless action movie.

“Cruise emphasized that the movie has some big ideas, action, and a lot of comedy — that last element was really not represented in the footage screened today. There’s more of a hint of a romantic angle between Cruise and Blunt’s characters,” Slash Film says.

The film is scheduled for a June 2014 release.
