This fall, prepare to become a believer. With a later start than previous seasons, season 6 of “Dexter” promises to bring fresh excitement, unexpected surprises and, of course, lots of complications and killings. The full trailer for it has premiered at Comic-Con 2011.

Teasers for the network’s very popular killer show have hinted that the theme for the upcoming season might be religion and, in more general terms, faith in a higher power that dictates everything we do.

The new episodes will pick up a year after the events in season 5 and, while Dexter is now Lumen-less, he still yearns for the connection that he once shared with her, stars of “Dexter” present at Comic-Con told the panel, as Dread Central informs.

At the same time, he also comes to the conclusion that there may be a higher purpose to his killing than he ever imagined, which the newly released trailer fully illustrates.

It kicks off with a 30-second segment of Dexter asking one of his victims, proudly wearing a Jesus tattoo on his chest and saying that God forgives all of our sins, what Jesus would have said to his killing of his wife just to save divorce expenses.

A series of very quick cuts then follows, set against Marilyn Manson’s version of “Personal Jesus” from Depeche Mode – the perfect way to show that, indeed, the underlining theme of the season is “defining faith.”

From what we can see, Dexter will be doing a lot of killing in season 6, but also make another lady friend, who also happens to be a blonde like Rita and Lumen, and with whom he gets intimate at least on one occasion.

We also get a glimpse of Mos Def in character: he’s an ex-con turned a believer, and he’s out to cause trouble.

The relationship between Batista and LaGuerta gets more tense (and twice as interesting, fans were promised at Comic-Con), while Matsuka will have to deal with interns on a weekly basis.

At one point, Dexter is even shown with what looks like a gunshot wound to the abdomen. All in all, fans of the series are in for quite a ride. Season 6 of “Dexter” premieres on Showtime on October 2.
