14 DAY TRIAL // The Chinese graphics card maker ColorFire, an associate brand of Colorful that specializes in AMD Radeon solutions, has just released a heavily modified HD 6870 card that is geared towards extreme overclockers as it features manual voltage control as well as a dual-BIOS switch.
Dubbed the Xstorm HD 6870, ColorFire's solution is based on a completely customized design and features a unique cooling solution as well as a specially modified printed circuited board (PCB).
This has been built especially to cater to the needs of extreme overclockers and uses a 5+1 phase VRM with POSCAP capacitors and an elongated design that is stiffened with a metal backplate.
Power is delivered via two 6-pin PCI Express connectors placed in the back of the card.
In addition, the PCB also sports a series of voltage monitoring points, DIP switches for adjusting the voltage of the GPU and memory as well as two BIOS chips that can be selected using a switch placed on the I/O panel.
By enabling this switch, the operating frequencies of the card are increased from the usual 940 MHz core and 1100 MHz (4.40 GHz effective) memory to 1050 MHz core and 1150 MHz (4.60 GHz effective) memory.
Cooling is provided by a three heatpipes that draw the heat away from the GPU and into an aluminum heatsink which is chilled by a massive 110mm diameter fan.
This was also used for the company's previous Xstorm HD 6850 graphics card which is currently the world's fastest HD 6850, according to the Hwbot rankings.
No details regarding the price of the ColorFire Xstorm HD 6870 are available at this time, but the company will first sell the card in Asia, and then in Europe.
The AMD Radeon HD 6870 graphics card is based on the Barts XT GPU and packs 1120 stream processors, 56 texturing units, 32 ROP units, a 256-bit memory interface and 1GB of video buffer. (via TechPowerUp)
