The development team at Gearbox has revealed that they always planned to create female characters for the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines, including one of the characters that can be selected for the cooperative game mode.

At E3, one of the developers suggested that female characters would not be included, but it seems that he was only talking about the demo they were showing and not the full experience.

Randy Pitchford, the leader of Gearbox, stated that the inclusion of female characters introduces variety to the game because the moves are slightly different and there are changes to the character skeletons.

The CEO also revealed some information about how characters will be customizable in the multiplayer mode, including the option to write slogans on their equipment.

The characters for the cooperative mode are: Cpl. Christopher Winters, Pvt. Demarcus Short, Pvt. Jennifer Redding Quintaro or Pvt . Guillermo Quintaro.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during February 2013.
