A grey Persian-Himalayan cat that rose to fame thanks to its looking like a complete sourpuss and its record-breaking fur passed away earlier this week, and hundreds of fans are now mourning its death.

The feline, named Colonel Meow, was just 2 years old when it died, International Business Times tells us. Apparently, the cat fell ill in last year's November.

However, the exact health issues that led to its death have not yet been shared with the public.

The news about Colonel Meow's passing was announced by its caretaker, who posted the following message on Facebook this past Thursday: “Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening.”

Furthermore, “I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both.”

Colonel Meow was adopted by Anne Marie Avey back in October 2011, when she found him wondering on the side of a road in Seattle.
