Blizzard has announced that it plans to deliver a special Collector's Edition of its upcoming StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, which is set to be priced at 99 dollars and deliver a wide array of goodies related to the series. At the moment, the PC exclusive real-time strategy title does not have a launch date but a beta stage is in development and the game is widely expected to be outed before the fall of this year.

Those who opt to pick up the Collector's Edition of StarCraft II will be getting exclusive in-game content that will arrive via the Battle.net service and will include, initially, special portraits for player profiles, new decals for the units and a fresh version of the Thor unit for the Terrans. Thee will also be a tie-in with World of Warcraft, with players getting a mini Thor pet that can be attached to all the MMO characters linked to one account.

Players will also get a lot of media content. A book showing off the art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will have no less than 176 pages filled with concepts. The first issues of the StarCraft comic will also be included, telling a story, which bridges the gap between the two games. A soundtrack CD will be part of the package, with 14 music tracks included. Players will get a making of DVD with exclusive interviews and cinematics.

But the most interesting part of the Collector's Edition is a 2 GB USB drive that will look like the dog tags of Jim Raynor, loaded up with the first StarCraft and its Brood War expansion, for those nostalgic who are interested in replaying it.

Mike Morhaime, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Blizzard, stated when the Collector's Edition was announced that “We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe with our players for over 10 years, and we wanted to offer an epic collector's edition that commemorated the occasion.”
