CollectiveX, a social networking platform aimed at professional users and similar to LinkedIn, has changed its name to Groupsite.com to better reflect its product offerings. The site provides sharing and collaboration tools for companies and professional groups.

“Groupsite.com better tells our story as the leader in social collaboration, and how we empower groups to make things happen by enabling them to communicate, share and network. It's also easier to remember, more likely to be searched for on the Internet and more customer-friendly than 'CollectiveX',” the company wrote, announcing the rebranding.

Groupsite.com is a cross between LikedIn and Ning and lets users create private or public social networks. The service is aimed at businesses that want to create groups to communicate and easily share contact information or files, while providing other services like shared calendars. Groupsite also makes it easy to customize the service by allowing users to add any number of third-party apps as well as embed any part of their webpage on other sites. The service currently has more than 26,000 registered groups and almost 5000 enterprises using the platform internally. The basic product is free but the company charges for premium services that offer more storage, no ads and other similar features. It also has packages for large corporations that want to create multiple networks.

The change came after an extensive study that convinced the company to take the name of its leading product and lose CollectiveX in favor of Groupsite. “By and large, customers told us they like "Groupsite.com" over "CollectiveX," especially when appearing in their Groupsites. We're Groupsite.com today (formerly CollectiveX) because we believe this name will better serve you and our mission,” the company added. “This change is good for everyone: it strengthens our company, which helps us do more for you, our customers.”
