Colin Farrell is the running for the leading role in Len Wiseman’s “Total Recall” remake, as also is “Inception” star Tom Hardy, it has emerged. A decision should be made soon, reports suggest.

In July this year, word got out that Wiseman had been approached with an offer to direct a remake of the 1990 blockbuster starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, helmed by Paul Verhoeven.

Not only has Wiseman decided to accept the offer, but he’s already meeting up with potential candidates for the lead, with Farrell and Hardy being the favorites now, MTV’s MovieBlog reports.

Otherwise, the final details for the film are being ironed out, with the above-mentioned report saying a start date has been set and a screenwriter attached.

“Director Len Wiseman’s ‘Total Recall’ reboot is set to go before cameras in late March of next year with Neal Moritz and Original Film producing from a script written by Kurt Wimmer,” MTV says.

“But there’s more to the story than a production start: according to the report, the three front runners to replace Schwarzenegger are Colin Farrell, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender,” the same report informs.

“Farrell is considered the front runner, and it’s not hard to understand why. Having just finished filming ‘Fright Night’ and ‘Horrible Bosses,’ Farrell’s schedule is considerably less packed than both Hardy and Fassbender’s,” MTV argues.

Right now, Hardy is rumored to be attached to several projects, including to Chris Nolan’s next “Batman,” in which he could possibly play The Riddler, as per reports.

He’s also busy shooting “This Means War” with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine of “Star Trek.” Fassbender is equally busy, shooting “X-Men: First Class,” where he is Magneto, the younger version of the character originally played by Ian McKellen.

This is just one reason that makes Farrell the right choice for the remake, MTV believes: the other being that he needs a big franchise to make his glorious comeback to the big screen.

“With [Hardy and Fassbender’s] names already attached to big franchises, perhaps this is a better fit for Farrell. The Irish actor hasn’t had a major blockbuster to his name in quite a while, and ‘Total Recall’ could be just the ticket he needs to get back into the big-budget game,” MTV says.
