If you’re the type that travels around a lot and you just can’t do without your mobile devices, you probably find charging a hassle.

Sure airports and trains usually provide charging spots, but what happens if you’re out and about a new city or taking a hike in the woods and you suddenly discover you have no battery on your smartphone?

This new Kickstarter project might have just the solution for you – a charging backpack where you can keep all your mobile devices while you’re on the move (via CNET).

The team behind the endeavor offers two versions of the product. The first one is called the Colfax backpack and uses a smart charger to power up you gear. The charger lives in the backpack per se and the charging pockets are padded in order to protect your precious electronics from harm.

More than that, the backpack is water resistant and is even capable of safeguarding your products against shock. So in case you get chased in the woods by a wild animal and jump into the water trying to get rid of it, it’s good to know your mobile devices will be ok, at least.

The smart backpack senses power demand, so when it’s time to replenish the smart charger, you can plug the cord into the energy outlet. Furthermore, the backpack will know what’s the best way to safely send power to your mobile device.

If you have anything left over, the backpack will conserve that or use it to charge the lithium polymer battery living inside.

As for the premium model, this goes by the name of Colfax PHD. Like its brother, the PHD also provides charging capabilities, but also brings a 500GB hard drive that even lets you use your files.

The mobile storage broadcasts it's own secure WiFi network so users access it wirelessly, basically acting as a cloud accessible anywhere without Internet.

The 500GB of storage will surely come in handy if you want to clear some space on your phone or tablet.

When it launches, the Colfax is expected to sell for $349 / €256, but early pledgers can get one for as low as $199 / €146.

The Colfax PHD will go on sale for $495 / €363, although, if you secure one earlier, you’ll have to pay only $375 / €275. The charging backpacks will most likely start shipping out to customers in December.
