The sixth season of The Voice is adding some heavyweights of the industry to its lineup in an effort to create a bigger buzz and, ultimately, draw more viewers to the talent show in what seems to have become a bitter battle for ratings.

Their latest induction is Chris Martin, the renowned front man of the rock band Coldplay, who has been announced to join the US version of the show as an artist adviser. The sixth season of the reality series, that also features Shakira, Usher, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, is well under way, having already reached its battle rounds.

The news was broadcast by Coldplay on its Twitter account, where it also posted photos of Chris posing with the other celebrities. The accompanying message read, “Chris is to work with @adamlevine @blakeshelton @usher & @shakira as a Key Adviser on this season's US #TheVoice.”

NBC, the network that broadcasts the show, also explained some of the things Martin did for The Voice contestants, “Martin advised each of the Battles: Round Two performers on vocal techniques, stage presence and the importance of tailoring songs to fit their persona and strengths.”

Chris Martin thus joins in the ranks of previous guest mentors, that include Kelly Clarkson, Cher and Alanis Morissette.

The Live Shows are set to begin on Monday, April 21 and will be featuring the top 12 artists competing for the votes of the audience at home.
