Fans of Coldplay must be saddened to hear that their favorite band is getting ready for an extended leave of absence. The announcement comes from Chris Martin himself.

The other night, Coldplay performed at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium for what will be the last show of the Australian tour.

As it happens, it will also be the band’s finale big show for at least 3 years from now, as Billboard reports.

“This is the last big show for three years or so. I don’t want to stop,” Martin told fans in the venue.

As it happens, Coldplay is scheduled for a few more arena dates before December, when they’ll be sharing the stage with Jay-Z for New Year’s Eve.

However, after that, their schedule is completely clear, which could mean that their hiatus officially starts on January 1, 2013.
