Two-time Grammy-winning Colbie Caillat is soon to be presented with the Humane Advocate Award by the Humane Society of the United States.

Apparently, she was supposed to be honored in this way quite a while ago, yet Hurricane Sandy forced the HSUS to postpone the event.

The singer is to receive this award following her intense efforts to help convince people to not buy their future pets from puppy mills, seeing how the animals kept and bred in such facilities are more often than not abused.

Thus, Colbie Caillat showed her full support to the organization's Stop Puppy Mills campaign time and time again, and asked that people who wish to welcome a dog into their lives look into the possibility of adopting one from shelters and rescue groups.

The celebrity is to accept this award by video tape, Look to the Stars reports.
