According to a new research carried out by Italian scientists, co-enzyme Q10 is very beneficial for people who have heart disorders. Health24.com informs that a team of researchers at the Lancisi Heart Institute, Italy, found that a regular intake of Q10 supplements improves cardiovascular health and fights against heart problems.

Co-enzyme Q10, also known as vitamin Q10 or and ubiquinone is one of the most powerful compounds in our body, that acts as an antioxidant and is also used by the body to produce energy at molecular level. The compound can be found in and around all the cells in the human body, in the lipid (fatty) membranes that surround all cells, as well as within a cell, in the lipid membranes surrounding the various little cellular "organs", such as mitochondria and microsomes.

Inside the cells, co-enzyme Q10 plays an important role in the Electron Transport Chain (ETC) found within mitochondria. Known as the molecular "power plants," mitochondria are vital for our life, as they produce most of the oxygen needed for other crucial processes in our organism. The oxygen produced by mithocondria is especially useful for the ETC, which is closely connected with the adenosine triphosphate molecule (ATP) in our bodies, the most important energy organic carrier. The electron chain uses the oxygen in order to produce the ATP bioenergy, without which the infinite number of processes and reactions that take place in our bodies would stop.

Therefore, co-enzyme Q10 is a very beneficial compound that has the following properties: it is a very potent anti-aging factor, it enhances memory and energy, annihilates the harmful effects of anti-oxidants and helps preventing or treating various types of cancer or other serious illnesses. Co-enzyme Q10 was also found beneficial in reducing the severity of AIDS.

But the current study also found in trials that Co enzyme Q10 works efficiently in reducing cardiocirculatory problems and boosting heart and vascular health. Findings of the study reported in the European Heart Journal showed that a regular intake of co-Q10 supplements improved heart function by 9% and increased blood flow by 38%. "Oral CoQ10 improves functional capacity, endothelial function, and left ventricle contractility in CHF without any side effects," concluded Italian scientist and lead researcher of the study, Romualdo Belardinelli.
