It seems that Codies love four letter game names

Previous racing titles from Codemasters, such as Colin McRae: DiRT or Race Driver: GRID, were considered by many truly revolutionizing, but the publishers seem to want even more. Therefore, they have signed an agreement with Asobo Studios to publish Fuel, a game that apparently will also revolutionize the genre by bringing in the largest environment ever created in a racing title. The game is set to be released next year for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Fuel will be set in a possible alternate present in which the entire planet is ravaged by global warming. Oil prices are very high since there are fewer and fewer reserves, so a new type of racing begins in the wastelands, where everybody competes for fuel. The game will bring us a huge arena that's over 5,000 square miles (14,000 km?) and a really tough competition.

"Fuel raises the bar in terms of scale and exhilaration for racing games. We begin with the largest racing environment to appear in gaming - ever. With our accelerated effects of climate change and dynamic weather system we add an extra dimension that change races on-the-fly and constantly presents new challenges to players," said Sebastian Wloch, chief executive officer of Asobo Studios.

So this dynamic weather system means that we'll have full day to night transitions, sunshine, torrential rain, as well as tornadoes, sandstorms and thunderstorms - basically, everything you'd expect to see on a ravaged planet. However, it will be pretty fun, too, since you will be able to perform death defying stunts with one of the many two or four wheeled vehicles. Multiplayer will also be an option, which will bring, according to the developers, hundreds of challenges (however, we don't know how many people will be able to race against one another). But as soon as we'll have more details on Fuel, we'll let you know.
