The technology used to create the racing title is also better

One of the major changes that Codemasters is making to the upcoming GRID Autosport is to re-introduce the cockpit camera for all included cars, which means that the company is addressing one of the major criticisms launched against the second title in the franchise.

Toby Evan-Jones, one of the leading producers working on the experience, says that his team was focused on performance earlier in the life cycle of current consoles and is now able to extract more power from the hardware.

He tells VG247 that, “For GRID 2 we had ideas about what we wanted to push on and improve, and it was mainly to do with the track streaming technology that streams the track in real-time as you’re racing – meaning it’s not all stored in memory. That allowed us to have longer tracks and higher detail on textures, but we needed more processing power to do that which meant we had to remove cockpit cam.”

GRID Autosport will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft on June 24 in the United States and three days later in Europe.

The new racing game will introduce more than 22 full real-world locations, but Codemasters is not talking about the full list of cars that will be part of the experience.
