Nintendo of America has revealed some new information regarding the upcoming 3DS turn-based tactics game Code Name: Steam.

The game is being developed by Intelligent Systems, famous for its tactical series Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. Code Name: Steam will bear a resemblance to the Valkyria Chronicles series, by incorporating elements of third-person shooters in gameplay.

The action is set in an alternate version of London, benefiting from a distinct steampunk and fantasy flavor. The plot sees aliens invading Earth, and Abraham Lincoln stepping up to the task of defending it.

Given that a fictionalized version of the famous American president managed to safeguard the world from vampires, he seems like the logical choice in an alien invasion scenario.

The rest of the game's cast is inspired by various characters from American literature, from works such as "The Wizard of Oz," "Peter Pan," and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

A strong main character

The company took to Twitter to post an image of Code Name: Steam protagonist Henry Fleming, offering more details on his combat prowess. Fleming is an elite member of Abraham Lincoln's alien-killing squad, armed with a powerful and inspiring weapon: the Eagle Rifle.

The Eagle Rifle is not your regular old assault weapon, as it fires three "extremely patriotic" shots per attack. Take that, alien menace!

In addition to this, Fleming's weapon of choice can also hurl an explosive eagle at enemies, for heavy area-of-effect damage.

Furthermore, the image reveals that the character is also capable of Overwatch, which is usually an action that makes a soldier forgo their offensive moves in order to secure a perimeter and perform an attack of opportunity upon enemies entering the guarded area during their turn.

This suggest that some of the characters in Code Name: Steam will be unable to use the action, which means that it will introduce a layer of complexity during showdown.

Code Name: Steam is expected on the 2DS and 3DS handheld systems from Nintendo on March 13 in North America and sometime in May in Europe.
