The insects decide to lay off the sweets, stop eating baits

I should very much like to preface this piece of news as follows: no, no, NO! As if the fact that they can crawl their way everywhere ain't enough, scientists are now telling us that German cockroaches have also figured out a way to outsmart traps.

Long story short: these pesky insects have “convinced” their taste buds to make baits meant to be sweet taste bitter.

As a result, they no longer feel like there's happiness they cannot pass up in the insecticide baits scattered all across the kitchen. Researchers explain that, unlike other species that have gained the ability to break down poisons without getting killed in the process, these roaches have developed a so-called behavioral resistance to baits.

Yeah, fancy way of saying: “A bunch of insects turned out to be smarter that the white coats trying to kill them.”

Ironically enough, German cockroaches are known to be omnivorous, meaning that they eat just about anything. Except bait, apparently.
