Many Americans thought it un-American, have sworn off Coke for good

One of the most appreciated ads at the Super Bowl 2014 is Coca Cola’s “It’s Beautiful” Coke commercial, which you can see in full and in HD above. It is also one of the most controversial, with many even swearing off Coke for good.

The ad features the song “America the Beautiful” sung in different languages, with the clear message that love and Coca Cola make America whole: a country with so many people, of such varied origins coming together as one thanks to these two governing forces.

“The only thing more beautiful than this country are the people who live here. Discover why #AmericaIsBeautiful,” Coca Cola wrote on Twitter right before the ad premiered.

As it happens, not many were that eager to make said discovery. On the contrary, they took to Twitter to say that Coca Cola is 100% American and, as such, having an ad for it include people of other cultures was un-American.

“We are American and, in America, we speak English” was the most tweeted argument in support of this.

Not few were those who got their National Anthems mixed up, and said that “America the Beautiful” was the American one. As such, having it sung in other languages was the closest thing to blasphemy and meant Coca Cola deserved a boycott.

As of now, Coca Cola is yet to address the furor.
