Coby could have made one tablet to test the waters and only then tried for more, but it looks like its first act is going to be big.

Where other companies only launched one, or two, tablets at a time (for the most part), Coby will release five in early 2012.

This might allow for some time, albeit short, to pass between the retail arrival of each, but their unveiling will be on the same day.

After all, the company means to show them all off during the 2012 edition of CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

The five tablets will have screen sizes of 7 (MID7042), 8 (MID8042), 9 (MID9042), 9.7 (MID9742), and 10 inches (MID1042), respectively.

All of them use an ARM Cortex A8 processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz, plus 1 GB of RAM, WiFi and expandable storage (up to 32 GB).

Furthermore, they all run the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system (OS) and support Full HD video playback (the HDMI output allows for streaming to HDTVs or monitors).

“Coby is thrilled to announce our premiere range of feature-packed Android 4.0-powered Internet tablets that will put the world in consumers' hands as never before,” said Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing, Coby Electronics.

“We also are proud to be among the first companies to make available a wide range of the newest, Ice Cream Sandwich-operated units, helping to further underscore our commitment to meeting the demands of a broad base of consumers with innovative products in the hottest CE categories.”

Coby expects the tablets to easily browse the web, play games, access e-mails, viewing all sorts of media files, etc.

Finally, the touch support is provided by capacitive technology and, since this is an Android device, there will be complete access to the Android Market as well (apps for all sorts of things).
