Although Cobra managed to make a name for itself as one of the world's most prolific radar detection solutions' manufacturers, the company also released a couple of PNDs over time, the latest to join the ranks being the 5550 PRO Navigation System for Professional Drivers.

Featuring a 5-inch touchscreen display, the new GPS navigation device from Cobra comes packed with a series of features truck drivers will certainly find to be quite useful, such as Junction Viewwith Lane Assist, State Mileage Log, and Hours-of-Service Log.

Another interesting detail worth mentioning here is the fact that the device's touchscreen display and menu color options help it deliver a better level of brightness in all usage conditions (including here bright sunlight), while the 5550 PRO also sports an advanced user interface, enabling faster and easier access to all of its functions.

Moreover, the device comes pre-loaded with an extensive road map of the US, featuring a very large number of POIs (points of interest) designed specifically for professional drivers, including here dedicated refueling stations an weigh stations, travel centers, repair shops, etc.

"With the 5550 PRO, we've taken virtually all the power and functionality of the award-winning 7750 Platinum unit and paired it with a 5-inch LCD screen. The result is one of the most impressive navigation systems on the market for professional truckers," said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales, Cobra Electronics, about the company's brand-new product.

According to Cobra, their 5550 PRO Navigation System for Professional Drivers will go on sale across the US in April 2011, the estimated retail price point for such a navigation solution being set at around 350 US dollars, which is actually quite a fair sum, taking into account all of the features and specs this thing has in store for its users.

I have the cobra 5550 pro and I deliver gas into cities. The fact that I get the 5550 lost when I deliver into morgantown, specifically university ave. It tries to give me a scenic route. and when I deliver into New Washington pa I do the same thing. We have a station on madien road and It does not even recognize that address.I stay mostly within a 500 mile radius of home and This has already happened. Up loading the maps is not really clear either. I have hooked up to the PC 3 times now and am still not sure if it finally got it. Some of the features are impressive, some are not.
