While devices that allow users to constantly keep track of their belongings are not exactly a great novelty (with the Loc8tor being a prime example of such a product), that hasn't stopped the people over at Cobra from releasing their first-ever product of this type, namely the Cobra Tag.

The Cobra Tag system is actually formed out of two different parts, namely a Bluetooth-enabled “tag” (or keyfob device, if you prefer the official description) that attaches to the item one might want to track, and an app running on their smartphone.

Similar to the Loc8tor, the Cobra Tag will constantly monitor the distance between the smartphone running the app and the tagged items, then producing a loud alert whenever the distance goes above a certain pre-set distance threshold.

Plus, the Cobra Tag also has a double-tracking feature, meaning that pressing a key on the keyfob device will trigger a response from the app running on the smartphone, that will immediately start ringing.

However, the Cobra Tag system also offers another interesting feature, namely the possibility of permanently tracking via GPS the location of the tags, and then sending these important pieces of information over to a pre-configured contact.

“Cobra Tag is a versatile and brilliant little system for protecting our phones and just about anything else of value, and I think most consumers will find it to be an incredibly affordable investment in safety and peace-of-mind," said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics, upon announcing the company's latest product.

According to Cobra, their “Tag” tracking system should become officially available in stores across the US at some point in July 2011, for around 60 US dollars, but, unfortunately, no additional details regarding international availability and pricing have been provided just yet.
