Many tablets have been unleashed so far, most of them for the consumer market, but CoActiv Medical decided to create a slate that, instead of multimedia, is designed for use in healthcare.
The tablet form factor has definitely become popular, enough so that models intended for various industry segments are starting to reach the market.
CoActiv Medical just issued a press release in which it details one such Windows slate, dubbed EXAM-PAD PC.
It is powered by an Intel Atom mobile processor, has 2 GB of DDR2 memory, a hard disk drive of 250 GB and a 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch, LED-backlit screen.
The display has a native resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, while “built-in B, G & N WLan WiFi, 3G & EDGE Phone Network, USB and Bluetooth connectivity” ensure that “potentially life saving medical images (x-ray, CT, MRI, etc.) are now on-call—literally—anywhere and anytime.”
The major asset implemented is the CoActiv WORLD-PACS exam viewing technology, which connects to the user’s onsite EXAM-PACS server over wireless.
“There is nothing else like EXAM-PAD on the market today,” comments Ed Heere, president and CEO of CoActiv.
“CoActiv has overcome the shortcomings of other devices by streamlining data input through USB devices and building in support for all Windows-based software and multi-media technology to create not just an advanced image viewing appliance but a fully functioning, state-of-the-art personal computer.”
“What’s more, it is a ready-to-use, road-tested appliance. We looked at the gaps in other solutions with the goal of overcoming them,” he added.
“EXAM-PAD could be the only mobile computing solution a radiologist will ever need—for work or general travel computing and on land, sea and air,” Ed Heere concluded.
The newcomer has a price of $900 and is available immediately, according to the
press release, albeit with a 30-day delivery window.
